Question 1

Are my secret notes or passwords uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. Secret Vault is 100% zero-knowledge and runs entirely in your browser sandbox. Encryption and decryption happen on your device via the Web Crypto API. Nobody, not even Awesome Crate, can access your notes.

Question 2

What is a .vault file?

Accepted Answer

A .vault file is an encrypted, portable document format created by Awesome Crate. Opening it in Notepad or any text editor displays a clear security header. It safely packages your text, photos, and voice notes with AES-256-GCM encryption.

Question 3

How does the breakdown self-destruct timer work?

Accepted Answer

When you set a self-destruct deadline, the expiration timestamp is cryptographically sealed inside the authenticated envelope (AAD). Our client verifies global network time before decrypting; once expired, the note is permanently locked and destroyed.

Question 4

Can I share secret .vault files with friends?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can protect a file with a custom password or create a passwordless open note, then share it directly to WhatsApp, Telegram, or social media using the built-in share sheet.
